Why Camping Doesn't Suck

I've had a lot of people (let's face it, that really just means one person) ask me how I can stand camping.

It's so gross! No, actually it's not gross. It's awesome!

Here's why:

1. You can look like crap

Oh, Beyonce. I still love you.
When I go camping, I don't wear makeup or do my hair. My favourite camping attire is a comfy pair of sweatpants/shorts, an oversized t-shirt and a messy bun. And really, no one cares. Everyone around you looks like crap too.

2. You become one with nature

By the end of your camping trip, you really appreciate your bed how beautiful nature really is. You also get to share your living space with cute, random animals such as squirrels, chipmunks and bears.

Please note: I do not endorse sharing a campsite with a bear.

3. It's cheap

You can stay at a campsite for about $50 a night. All you have to do is bring your tent, hotdogs and the beer. Go with a group of friends, split the cost and you've just had a getaway for next to nothing.

4. Campfires

Look ma, fire!
There's something special about campfires. They're soothing. And pretty.

I'm not a pyromaniac. I swear.

5. Smore's

Enough said.

6. Technology? What technology?

If you're really camping, you're far away from civilization, and you probably don't have cellphone reception. If you have reception, you probably have no means of charging your phone, laptop, iPad and God knows what else you brought; that is unless you're camping at a resort that has an electrical outlet at each site. FYI, that's not "real" camping.

Moving on. It's nice to leave the technology behind for a bit. Seriously, just try it.

(Although I'll be the first to admit that I'm the one fighting for the car charger on the way home.)

7. You meet new people

Talk to your neighbours! Chances are, they're pretty cool and you'll have a great time drinking hanging out with them!

8. Tents are cool

My giant Swiss Army tent makes me proud
Remember when you were a kid and you'd make a fort out of chairs, blankets and pillows? Wait, you still do that now? No ones judging. But, you can take that fantasy outside and sleep in a tent! Get a huge one and party (or sleep) the night away!

You're just dying to go camping now, aren't you? You're welcome.

  2. I always wanted to go camping as a kid, but we never did and I lost interest. Now I want to go again! That tent is massive. Sounds like such a fun thing to do with a group of friends!

  5. I've had to explain smores to Sam about 100 times. They dont exist in England and he just doesn't get it! It's a bit too hot in New Mexico to camp during the summer but its so much fun in the Spring/early fall! xx

  7. Love this! We're going camping in a few weeks, and I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little unsure about the whole no-running-water, one-with-nature part. ha! I know we'll have a great time with our nephews and family, but it will be our first time camping for real! Hopefully we'll love it as much as you! :)
