Blog Every Day in May

"We go now and never come back.
We're going to write a brand new story."
- Faber Drive; Life is Waiting
I'm jumping on the "Blog Every Day in May" ship! Don't know what I'm talking about? Click on the lovely button for more info!

Now onto today's topic:

Day 2, Thursday: Educate us on something you know alot about or are good at. Take any approach you'd like (serious and educational or funny and sarcastic)

Where's 'Day 1' you ask? Basically, I plan to use some of the prompts offered, but not all. As much as I'd love to tell you all the story of my life (Day 1's topic), I already had a post planned for yesterday and I'm not up to writing two posts a day. Moving onto this one!

What the heck am I good at? Oh yeah, writing.

As many of you know, I graduated from University with a degree in Professional Writing. But, if you know anything about writing, you know that unless you kiss a lot of ass know the right people, it's not easy to make money as a writer. Which is why with my degree in writing, I now work full-time as an Administrative Assistant for a private investment firm. Yesterday, I spent a good hour doing overlays on graphs and creeping on blogs answering phones. That's my writing degree for you; hard at work.

This is actually part of the reason why I started blogging. I love writing but it's not like I'm going to make a career out of it anytime soon. It's something I've learned to accept and I'm more than happy working on a different career path. Oh, and just so you know, publishing a novel is definitely something on my bucket list; although it's not something I'm ready to explore at the moment, be prepared to line up at the bookstore to get your copy when it comes out!

To sum it up (because I really don't want to make a super long blog post), if I've learned anything, it's that it doesn't matter what your degree is in. You'll probably (not always) end up doing something else with it anyway. So don't beat yourself up if you're not exactly where you expected to be in life. There will always be ways to follow your passion: one way or another.

  1. I feel that I wrote the second to last paragraph. Is thst creepy? Anyway, writing is why I stared my blog also. I love expressing myself and everyday thoughts. Writing can be a masterpiece if you let it. Im not the best writer but feel my writing has improved. I was in love with the college comp class I took last year.

And by the way, writing a novel is something I want to do too. Brian and I were talking about it two years ago. . I actually started writing but stopped

  3. Girl, I feel ya. I always joke that I graduated in worthless and worthless with a minor in worthless but the fancy piece of paper SFASU gave me says, B.S in Political Science. B.S. in History with a minor in Gender Studies. Needless to say my Momma hates that joke.

  4. I had to laugh at your unemployment post. SO in the same boat. I graduated in Bio, Nature and Environment, and English and I am currently a nanny. Don't know why I stressed so much about picking majors when I'd be jobless anyway. Ha!Epitome of "I'm broke and I have a degree to prove it." :) Great blog, girl!

    1. Opps, I didn't mean to make it sound like I'm unemployed. I love my job and I'm extremely grateful for it. I just thought it was kind of funny that University taught me that it's the degree itself that's important for getting a job, not what the degree is in.

  6. it does seem so rare now that people actually end up in a field where they use their degree. my major was criminology and i did sales for 3 years haha. it tends to usually work itself out in the end!

  7. I've only recently started this blogging lark and I think it's a great way to show off your writing skills. I'm not a writer, but I've met a lot of writers blogging. My degree is in design, I can't get a job doing that (without experience) either. I just try to be as creative as possible in my own time, hence the blogging!

  8. Count me in as another English major who recently started blogging as a way to reconnect with my writing side. I have a Creative Writing degree and spent the last 6 years working as an English teacher. Now I just recently made a career change and actually have time to blog!

  9. I wish that my talent was writing!! Well, I have a very long wish list :) But I think it's an amazing gift to have a way with words and telling a story!
Thank goodness for blogging so that you can still have your outlet!

  10. I really love how you put that last paragraph. I think a lot of us fall into thinking about where we should be, what we should be doing, etc etc. Live in the moment and do what makes you happy! :)

  12. Marriage is a long and protracted road. There are many years ahead of the bride and groom after they say, "I do". Many things are going to happen and much 'water is going to pass under the bridge'. " I want to marry a beautiful girl." This is the heart's desire of most men. Conversely, many of these wannabe husbands do not know the basics of beauty. microblading
