That Time I... Had Bangs.

I think it's time for this little blog of mine to get a weekly segment.

The other day, I decided that I would dedicate Wednesdays to a That Time I... segment, where I look back on something I did in the past.

Coincidentally, I recently came across Emily's lovely blog. Turns out, she had the same idea as me! Except she beat me to the punch and started hers last Friday (which you can read here). Here I was, thinking I was super creative. But you know what they say: great minds think alike! So now Emily and I have our own unique segment. Be sure to check her page out to see her topic!

To kick things off, I'd like to share with you all that time I had bangs.

It's a pretty big deal. I know it doesn't sound like it, but let's get something straight. As a kid, I had bangs and only bangs (and short hair that made me look like a boy).

See what I mean?
My mom wouldn't let me grow my hair out. I don't know why. Maybe she was worried I'd get gum stuck in it or I'd fall asleep with a lollipop in my mouth, which would then fall out of my mouth and into my hair (okay, so maybe that second one actually happened). Whatever the reason, I had to have short hair and bangs.

I don't know when it was, but at some point I had enough and decided to grow my hair out. Including my bangs. For what I can only assume was a good ten years, I had long hair. No bangs.

Then, New Girl (yes, the TV show) came into my life and I fell in love with Hannah Simone. Have you seen this girl? She's gorgeous.
Hannah Simone, being all pretty

My girl crush on Hannah got kind of serious (Zooey Deschanel isn't half bad either) and I was determined I could pull off her look. So last year, I went and got bangs. Then I did a photoshoot to show them off!

Me, walking in a field with a dress and heels on.
Doesn't everyone do that?
Do I look like Hannah Simone yet?

Somehow a motorcycle became part of the shoot

Yes, Andrew was there too
I'll admit that I was pretty happy with them but dang son, they were just too much work! To the ladies who can pull bangs off and maintain them like it ain't no thang, my hat goes off to you!

Do you or have you ever had bangs?
Is there a hairstyle you wish you could pull off but can't?

  1. You look great with bangs. I had them for a month or so and never got them trimmed again. Whoops.

  2. Ok seriously, can I just say these pictures dont even look like you! If it wasnt for Andrew being in the last one, I wouldnt have guessed it was you. These are gorgeous, like I'm not kidding. anyway, that first picture is me all the way. My parents have a frame with a school picture from every year since elementary school and let me just say, blah. Short hair and bangs were the thing I guess. I cant remember when I grew out of bangs but I'm kind of glad I did. I have a side bang now but its not much

And...I was actually pondering an idea of doing like a "What have I done" type of thing. Kind of what you're talking about. That would be fun!

  3. I literally laughed out loud when I read this, because I basically had the same scenario play out with me. I had bangs last year, loved them, but grew them out because of all the work. Then I started watching New Girl, and fell in love with bangs again. (Both of those girls make them look so easy!) They looked really nice on you though! :)

  7. I had bangs when I was little... Like THICK bangs! My mom wouldn't let me grow them out until 5th grade when I'd had enough, ha. I haven't had bangs as an adult... I don't think I could pull them off! But props to you cause you rocked them! :)

  8. Haha I can so relate to this post!! I had the ugliest bangs growing up, don't know what my mother was thinking! I agree with you on how much work they are, I got them again back in college and boy can they be a pain in the butt. Especially when they get to that awkward stage where they poke you in the eyes. You totally pulled them off!

  10. Love this post!!! Okay I have to admit that I want to purchase "clip in bangs". I know that you can buy them here at a store called Ulta (do not know if you have those in Canada). They are suppose to look natural and not clipped in. So you do not have to make the commitment to actual bangs. You look good with bangs though!!
