What are you doing in my apartment?

I'm really just trying to hide my giant cat.
Aren't we all?
I don't like when someone is in my apartment when I'm not there. It could be my landlord, a technician or my boyfriend's best friend. Doesn't matter who it is. It makes me uncomfortable.

This week, there are workers in my apartment changing the risers in the kitchen. They're there all. Week. Long.

Last night, I came home to holes in my wall that had been covered up by boards. I found layers of sawdust everywhere. When I mean everywhere, I mean everywhere. On my coffee table, on my TV and even in my bedroom! You're working on my kitchen! Why is there sawdust in my bedroom? Are they taking naps in my bed and then playing XBox in my living room? I'll never know!

I officially declare this a long week. I also hereby declare that I don't think I could ever make it through a renovation. To those of you that have, my hat is off to you.

Have you done a renovation?
Are you okay with people being in your home when you're not there?

  1. I haven't done a renovation, but I can't tell you how glad I am to be rid of my current landlord soon. He enters ALL. THE. TIME. without notice. Oh, but he doesn't do anything either. Ugh. The point is, I totally get your frustration.

  2. we did our whole basement a few summers ago and i hated every second of it. i specifically put in the contract that they MUST finish within 3 weeks or i'll start taking X dollars off the price for each day they were delayed. they were really profesh though; did the job and finished 1 day early and it was awesome. they were also pretty clean about the whole thing too.

  4. It's so damp in out flat that one of our outer walls is being completely re-done with means workmen galore. And I completely understand where you're coming from. I've met a few of them in passing and they seem like really nice guys but it still creeps me out that people I don't know are totally alone where I live... x

  5. OH MY GOSH! We had to add onto the backside of our house, to make Alina's bedroom WHILE I WAS PREGNANT. We painted our ENTIRE house WHILE I WAS PREGNANT! Rob ripped out all of the carpets in our house and replaced them with nice flooring WHILE I WAS PREGNANT! AND-- I helped considerably with the painting. I seriously can't believe that I helped.. I was such a trooper. The only thing Rob didn't do himself was the dry walling.. and my goodness, ask anyone that has had a drywalling renovation in one room of their house... DRYWALL gets EVERYWHERE. I'm STILL finding it.. It seriously sneaks under doorways and settles on any surface that there is. It was awful and horrid and the worst thing I've ever had to clean. But.. it's construction, it's messy and it gets everywhere. After living with someone in construction for over eight years I've learned to accept the fact that it's messy and it's not the job of the guys to make sure the dry wall doesn't seep under the doorways or through the doors.. They're just there to dry wall and you're stuck with the mess. Sigh! So yes, to answer your question.. we've done renos and they totally suck ass. !!!

  12. I don't like when people are in my apartment either. I know maintenance and office staff technically have every right to be there, but it bugs me! Luckily, my office staff is really good about letting us know ahead of time if work has to be done. At least that way I have time to put my dirty underwear in the hamper before they see it. HA!!

  13. I don't like it either! I just don't trust people I guess. I've never had a bad experience or anything like that but it just feels so WEIRD.

  15. ugh so annoying! I hated when we would have random people in our apartment too. my one maintenance lady was a huge asshole and would leave crazy messes whenever she did anything. the one time they had to access the roof through my bathroom. she used my waste basket to fill with water to rinse stuff off outside (what!?!) and then there were dirty boot prints all over my countertop. I wanted to murder her.

  19. Oooh, I don't think I would like that at all. Especially if there is sawdust anywhere that is NOT the kitchen. Quite weird! But, unfortunately, I'm sure it must be done. Hopefully it will go by fast and they will be out of there in no time!
