That Time I... Went to Whistler, BC

I've decided to recap my trip to Vancouver in two parts.

Two days of my vacation were actually spent in Whistler (not Vancouver). Whistler is absolutely gorgeous and needs just as much of a recap as Vancouver will get!

Brace yourselves. Picture overload is coming.

On Thursday night, Andrew and I landed in beautiful Vancouver. We got a rental car and immediately drove to Whistler. The roads were windy and the views of the mountains were amazing.

After checking into our hotel (which, for the record, was very nice. Unlike the one we booked off of Hotwire) we went out to explore Whistler village, where we enjoyed free samples and lots of picture taking opportunities.

Whistler is home to the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games

Oh... pretty view!
After more exploring, and a wonderful dinner, we rested up for the big morning ahead!

We woke up early the next morning, took a necessary selfie and got ready to climb Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains!

To get to our starting point (the top of Blackcomb Mountain - over 7000 feet above ground), we had to take a chair lift. The further up we got, the foggier it became. We literally couldn't see a thing as we disappeared into the fog.

Kisses are necessary when you can't see where you're going.
Just when we thought we had reached the top - we hadn't! Off to another chair lift we went, until we finally reached the top!
Yay, we made it!
After spending a few hours hiking on Blackcomb, we took a gondola across Blackcomb to Whistler Mountain.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know just how crazy that gondola ride was. We could barley see a thing! Although we did get a good view of mountains before all the fog came in.

Eventually, we made it here!

Or, at least we thought it was the highest place. It turns out it wasn't.

That mountain behind us is actually the highest place. Up another chair lift we went!

The view at the top (of mountains, of course!) was spectacular. We went off to do more hiking... then this happened...

Does this look like a trail to you?
I don't know when and I don't know how, but somewhere along the way, we got lost. We ended up off the path - and halfway down the mountain! We debated climbing all the way down to the bottom, but we had souvenirs at the store at the top waiting for us. So, up that big, steep hill of a mountain we climbed. It was a tiresome, but very rewarding climb!

When we reached the top of our off-the-beaten-track path, we saw this sign:

Really? I had no idea.
I think the sign was referring to hikers that were going down the mountain. Since we were going up, you can only imagine how strenuous the climb was.

Taking the chair lift down was an exhilaration of its own.

When we finally reached the bottom, we rewarded ourselves with 20 cent wings and some cheap beer!

Despite being told the night before by the locals that it was going to be pouring rain during our hike, it didn't. We were very lucky, although it was foggy, we saw amazing views and even enjoyed rays of sunshine!

Whistler, you were absolutely amazing.

Come back next week to read about That Time I... Went to Vancouver!

Don't forget to visit my lovely friend Emily!

  4. wow that sounds like so much fun! except the not being a trail thing. it kind of reminds me of this episode of 'I shouldn't be alive' where this couple gets lost at the top of this super high mountain after taking a chair lift up. but since no one almost died on the trip, win on the extra adventure. I would love to visit here someday.
