Birthday Cake & A Haunted House

We're back from a wonderful weekend getaway to Michigan! I shall now overload you with pictures in my recap.

Friday.

After being stuck in traffic for two freaken hours, Andrew and I finally made it to the airport. One of the nice things about Andrew having his own plane is that you can take off whenever you feel like it and the flight time can be amended as necessary (although U.S. customs doesn't appreciate this. Opps).

Just over two hours later, we landed at my favourite FBO, where they treat you like you're a celebrity.

We grabbed our rental car and headed out for dinner at a place that was recommended by all the locals. I guess we have different expectations in food because Andrew and I were not impressed with our meals.

Saturday.

While Andrew tries to coordinate the GPS, I take selfies. Why not, right?

After an awesome buffet breakfast, we decided to explore Michigan and headed off to Detroit. What better place to explore than the zoo?

There, I made friends with a turtle.

Watched two camels get it on and enjoyed listening to the comments of other spectators.

"You usually have to pay to see stuff like this!"

"Mommy, what are they doing?"
"They're playing a game. For grownups."

Marveled at a pacing Tiger.

Took selfies with a Rhino in the background.

Enjoyed an Icee because I actually just turned 12.

Watched a Doe, who refused to take her eyes off Andrew.

Got up close and personal with a bear.

Had a bad photo of us taken.

Watched some penguins make out.

Then said "bye bye" to the zoo.

We went back to the hotel for dinner and Andrew surprised me with the most amazing cookies and cream cake ever.

After dinner, we finally headed off to the haunted house, Erebus!

Can I just say that that parking lot was an absolute disaster? People decided to create their own spots; when we tried to leave, we were blocked in! Seriously people, if you're going to create your own parking spot, have some consideration for those around you and don't block other people in. We ended up squeezing past two cars and driving over a curb to get out. Other people had the same idea, but unfortunately, one of those drivers ended up hitting one of the parked cars (and then immediately took off). I feel extremely bad for the car that got hit. But, enough about that.

We successfully completed Erebus and survived! I won't say much because I don't want to give away any spoilers, but it was a really cool experience. As per usual, the anticipation of going in was much scarier than the haunted house itself (for me anyway. I also ensured that we followed closely behind a group of four people who were nice enough to have us as part of their group). The animatronics were definitely pretty awesome and it was a very unique experience. I still say the one in Niagara Falls is scarier though.

Sunday.

As soon as we got back to the hotel after Erebus, my body shut down. I knew I was going to be the victim of a vicious cold any day now, but I made a deal with my body that it had to wait until after my birthday to attack me. It so kindly listened and hit me with a nasty head cold that night. We left early Sunday afternoon as I tried fighting it off.

It was still a pretty great weekend!

How was yours?

  19. A private trip in your boyfriend’s plane, zoo, and a haunted house. You definitely had a very long and tiring day. No wonder you immediately dozed off once you got into the hotel. But the exhaustion was worth it because you had a wonderful time.
