Another Condo? Enough Already!

A shot I took from Andrew's plane
I love my city. I can't say it enough: I love Toronto! The hustle and bustle, the multiculturalism, the restaurants, bars and pubs, the fact that there's always something to do, the fact that I don't need a car because I can get anywhere in the city by public transit (which I groan about when there are delays).

One thing I don't like though? The overgrowth of condos. There are so many goddamn condos in this city!

Now don't get me wrong, if I could afford it, I'd live in a condo right now instead of renting an apartment. It's not condos I'm against, it's the amount of condos that are being built!

In my area alone, I can count at least six condos that are being built right now! They're all within a five block radius of each other! Putting up these condos meant closing some of my favourite stores. Houses were bought out and torn down to be replaced with condos. The only heritage site in my neighbourhood, a post-office, is being torn down for yet, that's right, another condo (despite a petition that happened last year).

If you go downtown, all you'll see is condo after condo after condo being built.

It's madness and it's making this city very congested.

I'm over it.

In some good new-building news: Toronto is in the talks of creating a $60M all-year-round water park.

I can get on board with that. I just don't know where they'd put it. What with all the condos and all.

Are there too many condos in your city?

  1. Andrew has an amazing view! And a water park? That would be awesome! :)
There are hardly any condo buildings here but then again, St. John's is not even in comparison to Toronto!

  3. Oooh an indoor water park sounds so awesome! Maybe they can put it in a condo and then you can look at buying in that condo someday ;)
There are a lot of condos going up around Halifax these days too...not as many as T.O. but it does seem to be a popular building trend.

  4. not sure if you've ever been to old markham (markham road aka highway 48) but they shoved a WHOLE NEW CONDO complex right on old markham road! they knocked down a few old buildings to make room for it and it's only going to cause major congestion...as if it weren't congested enough.

i swear, humans are going to destroy this earth in no time.

  5. Yes, we have had certain parts of Portland popping up with condos and while I love the idea, I just have the really romantic idea of a cute house in the city with a yard and a garage and those type of things you don't find in the condo lifestyle! I don't mind having friends with condo's though!

  6. I wish London built more housing and then maybe it'd lower the price of housing currently.... Can we PLEASE go to this indoor water park when I come to visit you? x

  7. I live in a really small trendy area of the city and they are building a huge apartment complex. I have no idea how this little part of town is going to fit all those extra people (and their cars!) I feel like it's that cartoon that is blowing up by the seams and it is going to explode.....ugh I need to move ASAP. I could be down with that water park though ;-)

  8. I definitely relate to this. The thing with condos is that it means more people, which means more traffic. One new building or complex means that many more cars on the road, which means being stuck at every light or having to circle around looking for parking. Grrr!
