A Day Trip to Niagara Falls

As many of you have the day off to honour Veteran's Day, I'm at work, honouring Remembrance Day. In Ontario, Government offices and banks are closed today. However, I don't work in either of those industries, so here I am, at my office.

At 11:00am, we will have a moment of silence to remember the sacrifices our veterans made for us and honour those that have supported Canada's war efforts.

For now, I shall recap my weekend!

I'll be honest, I can't remember what I did on Friday. Let's skip to Saturday.

Saturday.

On Saturday, we decided to be tourists. We hopped on a tour bus and went to Niagara Falls for the day. Niagara is about an hour and a half drive from Toronto. When you have a tour guide telling you lots of neat facts on the drive up, it makes the time fly!

After we arrived in Niagara, we went up the Skylon Tower to get a bird's eye view of the falls.

To say it was windy up there would be an understatement.

We still had about two hours left until we had to get back on the bus. I was starving, so we grabbed a bite to eat before exploring some more.

We also bought that hilarious souvenir photo, which you may have already seen on Instagram.

We hopped back on the bus and headed to Niagara-on-the-Lake where we explored their quaint downtown area. Niagara-on-the-Lake is gorgeous and the shops are really cute. They even had a "Just Christmas" store! Since we didn't get to spend much time there, I really want to go back!

After exploring downtown, we headed to a winery for a wine tasting. As someone who has been to a couple wine tastings in the past, I was really disappointed by this one.

I still bought a bottle of wine though, simply because it had Dan Ackroyd's name on it.

After the tour, we headed back to Toronto. It was such a great day trip!

Sunday.

Sunday was ridiculously windy. Like, ridiculous. Absolutely too windy to do anything. Although, I did enjoy the view of a rainbow peaking out, despite the wind.

I also made a warm cheesy pasta bake because comfort food is essential on cold days!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

  2. I was in Niagara-on-the-Lake for a work thing on Thursday and Friday and I couldn't believe how beautiful that town is! We were talking to a guy there from New Jersey who had brought his wife to the falls for the first time and was talking about how amazing it was. We really take it for granted sometimes how close this world wonder is, so it was really neat to hear him talk about it!

  3. I have that exact same cheesy photo where it looks like you're going over the falls.

I keep meaning to take a day trip there as I haven't been in a few years but time keeps flying and other things come up. Were you able to go to any of the outlets?

  6. I love that you bought a bottle just because it had Dan Ackroyds name on it. This is why we'd be best friends. I adore the picture of you two at the too (despite the wind) xx

    1. Oh no. Maybe it was because I was coming from a tour bus but it felt very rushed. I'm used to being told what to expect before I taste the wine and being encouraged to smell it before drinking it. There wasn't any of that though. It was basically, "Here's a wine. It's red. This is where it's from. When you're done drinking it, come get the next wine." Granted, the person that worked there was very nice. Just too rushed for my preference!

    2. Yeah it all depends on how many tour buses they get in a day - I always made sure to tell people to smell it before drinking and what notes to look for. If you are going to the Food and Wine Expo this weekend, stop by the Diamond Estates booth - I'll be there all weekend :)

  12. I love Niagara! I actually have aunts that live in Ridgeway so I've been a few times and loved it everytime...I actually toyed with the idea of staying for the summer the last time I visited my aunts and working in Niagara falls. And I love Niagara on the Lake! The Trisha Romance gallery was the highlight of my trip there a few years ago.

  15. Happy Remembrance Day to you. I just found out from Rob's parents that in Ontario you don't get today off. That's craziness. Not much is opened here today.. It's just a day to kick back and remember..
That casserole you made looks really, really good. Maybe.. you could pass along the recipe.. I am always up for a new one.. !
We watched Insidious this weekend.... Did you really like it more than The Conjuring!? I was disappointed.. It didn't scare me too much..!

  17. This is such an awesome thing to do! We try to do 'things' on days off but usually that turns into staying home and eating junk food ;) I hope Niagara Falls makes it on my "visited" list some day
