That Time I... Almost Became a Chalk Outline

Andrew's brother, Raymond, celebrated his birthday last night (happy birthday, Raymond!). Since Ray's birthday falls on a long weekend, it's a bit of a tradition to go away for it (lucky guy). For this year, a friend decided to book a cottage along Lake Simcoe.

Or at least, that's what we thought.

A few days before we were supposed to arrive, someone (me) realised that we weren't staying at a cottage after all. We were staying at a motel. Say what?

Andrew, being the optimist, said it would be fine.

Don't worry about it. We'll make it work.

Pfft.We'll see about that.

Andrew, Raymond, myself and our friends, Savio and Rudy (neither of which is the friend that booked the cottage, mind you), pulled up to the motel late on Friday night.

Not what I picture when I think "cottage"
Right away, I started having doubts. I really, really didn't want to spend three nights in a motel. Not when I was told we'd be in a cottage and not when the cottage has two double beds and there are five of us.

We got our key and walked into our room.

In retrospect, I should have taken a photo of the room but I was much too disgusted to. This place was a dump. I'm sure Andrew would tell you that I'm over-exaggerating, but seriously, this place was gross. There was dust everywhere and the kitchen floors were covered with ants. Not only were they covered with them, but there was a little mound of them in one corner. We were also convinced that the beds had bedbugs (but we weren't about to touch the mattresses to confirm that).

We all agreed that this looked like a room out of a scene from CSI.

This a room where you see the outline of a body drawn on the floor in chalk.

We were not staying there.

We agreed to all chip in an extra $100 and pay the $500 upgrade for the cottage.

Best. Decision. Ever.

This is more like it
The cottage was gorgeous. Andrew and I got the master suite while the guys got the rooms upstairs, with bunk beds.

We also discovered that the couches were pull-outs, giving us a few extra beds.

Extra bed + cottage = more people.

The invites went out and about twenty different people showed up to the cottage throughout the weekend. We wont actually go into details about the weekend though (sorry). Instead we'll enjoy some pictures!

More people means more food!

But first, let's start the morning right with a coffee on the dock
(at a really cute cafe we found, thanks to a suggestion from a local)

BBQ goodness

The plank

My hearty breakfast.
Eggs, fries, potato salad and birthday cake
Fireworks for Canada Day!

And for those of you that were just dying to know, yes, I did finally get a shirt that says 'Canada' on it. Since we didn't actually take any photos on Canada Day (don't ask why), I took that photo in the car. Just for you guys! Aw, I'm so sweet.

Now it's your turn to be sweet.

Go visit Elizabeth at Undeniably, me and wish her a happy birthday!!

Then visit Emily at Inhabit Your Moments for her That Time I!

  8. The cottage seriously looks so nice! And I loooove the sunset photo towards the end. I love that you just bought your first Canada shirt. Dillon and I bought matching "Canada, Eh?" shirts when we were in Vancouver...but I definitely don't have a USA shirt, hahaha.
