I Confess... I'm Leaving!

It's Wednesday! Time to confess with Kathy!

I confess... Andrew and I leave for the Dominican in two days! Other than a snapchat when I booked the trip (and me telling a few friends), I've been pretty quiet about it in case something came up work wise and the trip had to be cancelled. I think we're in the clear though (I'm crossing my fingers).

I confess... I've been checking the price of the trip since I booked it to see if it had gone down at all (which lead to the conversation above). When I booked it, I had the option of taking the Price Protection Guarantee or getting $20 off the vacation (per person). I chose the $20 off. I made a good choice.

August 2009 - in Cuba
I confess... The first time I went on an all-inclusive vacation was with Andrew, just four months after we started dating! We were told we were crazy for going on a vacation so early on in our relationship. I think that vacation defined our relationship though. When we came back, I got really bad post-vacation blues and we both knew we found the person we were happy to spend our lives taking trips with. Yes, just four months in. This vacation is in celebration of our 5-year dating anniversary. Aw. (You can read about our first trip together here.)

I confess... I'm a little sad that going away means I'm going to miss the season finale of How I Met Your Mother. I've been watching this show since the beginning and I've been so curious to know how it ends! I think when I get home, I'm just going to avoid the interwebz until I watch it.

I confess... This is my first time since I started blogging (about a year ago) that I'm going to be away from blogs for a whole week. I'm going to miss you guys! I also don't have any posts lined up while I'm gone. Try not to forget about me. Ktnx.

Waxing & Other Confessions

This is definitely going to be a regular post for me. I love confessing on Wednesdays with Kathy!

This is how I feel about Wednesdays

I confess... Kathy is amazing. No, seriously. After admitting on Monday that I'm trying to use weights now, she sent me motivating emails and even a workout routine to follow. I seriously appreciate it!

I confess... I judge you when you don't respond to comments or at least comment back. It's rude. I see you commenting on other blogs. You don't have to be an a-hole. Time to do some unfollowing!

I confess...  I've been incorporating chia seeds into my breakfast. Are they supposed to taste like anything? I don't notice a taste and I think that's just fine.

I confess... I look at my Instagram feed constantly (basically, whenever I'm bored) but I almost never check Twitter. I often forget that I even have a Twitter account.

I confess... I wax - everywhere. Normally, I shave my legs, but sometimes I let that bad boy grow out so I can wax it and forget about it for a few weeks. This ends up making me super self-conscious when I'm hitting the showers at the gym and I look like a beast.

I confess... I paid $65 to get stabbed in the arm yesterday. Yep, I got an immunization shot for Hepatitis A. While I was there, the doctor said I was due for an immunization shot for tetanus, polio and all that other fun stuff, so she stabbed me in the other arm for free. I took it like a champ. (That's a lie. I spent the rest of the day complaining about how much my arms hurt and Andrew ended up picking me up from work so I wouldn't have to take public transit home, where I was bound to be squished between random strangers.)

I Confess...

It's Wednesday! That means I'm joining Kathy and confessing all my sins thoughts and junk and stuff.

via
I confess... I watched this video of the cute lion cubs (above) meeting their dad for the first time and I fell in love. But, I thought their dad was a bit of a jerk. Then I found out most male lions don't end up living very long (they get kicked out of the pride at 2, struggle to find food and are likely to be attacked while straying into another territory). Lion King was actually pretty accurate in a few ways.

I confess... I'm supposed to call my optometrist back but I don't know how to pronounce his name, so I still haven't. I also can't find him on Google.

I confess... it was a beautiful 9 degrees Celsius out yesterday. Today it's snowing! What kind of crap is this? I'm pretty pissed with nature.

I confess... the travel itch is biting me.

I confess... I tried to do my taxes this weekend but I kept getting distracted by things. I'm going to attempt to do them at work today because I'm cool like that.

I confess... I attempted to do a top knot today for the first time. I have no idea if I did it right and I don't care.

Confession & HIMYM Rumour?

It's Wednesday, and I actually remembered that Kathy has her awesome confess sesh on Wednesdays, so I'm finally joining in again!

I confess... I think I'm addicted to Plants vs. Zombies 2. I'm constantly playing it on my phone. Constantly. The sad part? I've finished the game and I'm just playing endless mode.

I confess... I'm always afraid of offending people. I really, really don't want to offend anyone. Unless you've offended me. If you've done it by accident, fine, no harm done. If you've done it by accident more than once, you're going to hear it from me.

I confess... I'm tired of complaining about being tired of the cold but I'm still going to complain anyway.

I confess... I realised that Saint Patrick's Day is in two weeks. I also realised that two years ago, I spent Saint Patrick's Day on a patio. A patio! Oh how I wish it warms up enough for that this year.

I confess... I'm still pretty freaked out/confused by what happened at the gym on Monday (although all your comments gave me laughs throughout the day, so thank you) that after the gym last night, I went home to shower. Yes, I sat on the subway smelling like sweat until I got home, but I did not care.

I confess... there's a pretty big rumour going around about how How I Met Your Mother will end. Since I'm a huge skeptic, I don't believe it. Have you heard it? What do you think? (If you want to read the theory, click here. Be warned, it's full of spoilers! Also, if you haven't seen the latest episode - which aired Monday, March 3, 2014 - you probably shouldn't read it at all.)

Grumpy Confessions

Since Kathy hasn't killed her humpday confession linkup, I felt it was my duty to join in. Sorry this isn't very upbeat. Blah.

I confess.. I've been really, really grumpy lately. Maybe it's because my apartment is freezing and outside is miserable. Maybe it's because I don't like coming home to finding sawdust everywhere. Maybe it's because I hate that I have to save up to go somewhere warm and I can't just take off whenever I want. Whatever it is, I've been in a bad mood.

I confess.. I've been questioning a lot of things in my life: people, career decisions, what direction I want my savings to go in.

I confess.. Seeing people complain about 2cm of snow really bothers me. When you have over 30cm of snowfall sitting in your driveway, come talk to me.

I confess.. I was really disappointed that it was an old episode of New Girl on last night.

I might be in love with Nick

I confess.. I kind of just want to go home (from work) and play video games. Because I'm a nerd and I'm okay with that.

I confess.. I've been going to the gym at night instead of in the morning or at lunch. I think I like that best just because I don't have to rush through my workout. I also get to take a quiet subway ride home. It kind of kills the rest of my night though.

I confess.. I need to go somewhere during the February long weekend. Even if it just means getting on a bus and going somewhere alone. The travel itch is getting me. Considering I just came back from Buffalo during NYE, I might be a little obsessed with traveling.

I confess.. I know I'm posting this pretty late in the day. I got busy with work. Sorry.

Not All of My Hair is Real

I have a confession to make (which is why I'm linking up with Kathy to make said confession).

Remember that selfie I posted on Instagram 7 weeks ago where I said I was loving the new cut and colour I just got?

Yeah, that one.

I have to confess: not all of the hair there is real. That's right. That day, I got extensions sewn in (I wore clip-in extensions a few times before that to "test the waters").

Why? Years ago, I dyed my natural hair blonde. That was a mistake. The bleach damaged my hair to an extent beyond saving. Along with all the blow drying and flat ironing I do, my hair just refused to grow any longer than a few inches past my shoulders. For me, this was frustrating. I had always dreamed of having long flowing hair past my chest. But, the only way for me to grow my hair and ever have a chance of it being that long naturally, was by cutting it.

So, I did. I cut a good three to four inches off my just-past-my-shoulders length hair. What followed was panic and insecurity. I'm convinced - thanks to a traumatic childhood memory of me with short hair - that with short hair, I look like a boy.

That's why I did the next best thing: I got extensions sewn in. The extensions masked the fact that my natural hair just touched my shoulders. On top of that, I got the long flowing lengthy hair I'd always dreamed of.

Having extensions was an experience, to say the least.

I loved the way my hair looked but I couldn't help remind myself that my hair wasn't natural. After a while, I started to feel ashamed. I shouldn't have to have someone else's hair sewn into my own just to make me feel good about myself. There's nothing wrong with short hair! Heck, there's nothing wrong with having no hair either! I had let myself get brought down by social media's distorted portrayal of "beauty." I became so embarrassed about the extensions that I only told my close friends that I had them. When anyone else told me they noticed something different about my hair, I'd just tell them I got it coloured (which was partly true).

Granted, that selfie is probably my favourite selfie of me taken to date. The extra hair did give me a confidence boost - and a lesson - so it wasn't all bad. Would I do it again though? No. Would I clip in extensions from time to time (like for photo shoots)? Maybe. I'd wear extra makeup for a photo shoot but I wouldn't get permanent makeup done to my face. To me, it's almost the same idea.

Left: With extensions
Right: Natural
If you're thinking about getting extensions sewn in though, more power to you. At the end of the day, it's your decision. If it makes you happy, then go for it. If you have any questions about sewn-in extensions, ask me in the comment section! Next week, I'll post the answers. There were a few things I wish I had known before getting the extensions put in!
