When I read that
Helene and
Sarah were hosting a Halloween themed link-up, my first thought was to share a hilarious story of when one of my friends dressed up as another friend for a Halloween party. But, since I no longer have access to those pictures and the story is more hilarious if you actually know the people involved, I decided against it.
We all know I love haunted houses though. So, I shall share some of the haunted houses I've been to and my thoughts on them.
Screemers - Exhibition Place in Toronto, ON
Remember when I told you
I went to my first haunted house when I was eight? Well, this is the one. As a kid, it was terrifying. It didn't help that my dad wanted to stop and look at everything. Oh, this door says, "DON'T OPEN" in big bold letters? Dad, what are you doing? Why are you opening it??
Seriously, terrifying as a kid. As an adult who has been through it many times? I'm over it. The last few times I went through it, I didn't get scared. At all. It was disappointing.
Screamers; House of Horrors - Niagara Falls, ON
This was, by far, the worst haunted house I've ever gone through. I went through it with one of my dear friends, Eliane. Since this is an all-year-round haunted house, and we were going through it in the middle of winter, it wasn't very busy. Wasn't very busy, as in, I'm pretty sure we were the only people there. The "actors" took advantage of that. This next part may be a bit of spoiler, so you might want to skip over it: we were locked in a room at one point. Oh. Scary stuff. Okay, let's move on to the next room. Seriously, guys. Let's move on. Guys? .... I kid you not, minutes had gone by and
nothing had happened. There was no where for us to go either. So, I sat on the floor and took my phone out. I was annoyed. And bored. An actor told me in a "scary" voice to put my phone away. I said I would when they let us out of the room. Reluctantly, they did and neither of us had an enjoyable time finishing our quest to get out of that annoying place.
Powerhouse of Terror - Toronto, ON
Andrew and I went here last year, after my dad bought us tickets for it (the price of tickets went to a charity which was a nice touch). In terms of the scare factor, it wasn't bad. Some nice touches to non-house attractions were a great magic show and a moving coffin that allowed you to experience being buried alive. We were going to try it but the line for it was too long (they also film you while you're in there!).
We also met some Ghost Busters there!
Unfortunately, the Powerhouse of Terror has come to an end. Not sure why it closed down!
Nightmares Fear Factory - Niagara Falls, ON
I actually mentioned this one in
this post but a few people brought it up after I published this post (how many times can I say "this" in one sentence?). Like I had mentioned, this is the scariest haunted house I've ever been through. It's pitch back and you have to follow a little red light to get through it. It's terrifying. I loved it.
If you go to their website, you'll see hilarious pictures of guests who have walked through it and gotten scared. They're really funny! If you haven't seen it yet, here's ours:

Halloween Haunt - Canada's Wonderland in Toronto, ON
For those of you that don't know, Canada's Wonderland is a theme park in Toronto (technically, it's a bit outside of Toronto). It's a pretty awesome one too
until you visit it every year and get bored of it. In October, at night, it's turned into a "haunted park" with lots of haunted houses. The price of admission also allows you to get on the rides, so it's a pretty sweet deal.
The first year it opened, I went (once again, with Eliane) and I was disappointed. Instead of having small groups of people go through each house, the line would go in all at once. Which meant, your chances of getting spooked by something weren't very high.
I still went back though. Over the years, it got better. One of the houses,
Asylum, got Andrew and I pretty good last year.
Oh, and here's something you didn't know: Andrew worked at
Halloween Haunt as a "monster" for a few years. He wasn't able to get me in for free though. Boo.
What's a good haunted house that you've been to?
I went to one once that led you into a pitch dark room. LIKE BLACK. and they hung from the ceiling pieces of what I think were astroturf. But when you have to walk through a dark room and you cant SEE what the obstacles was, it was pretty crazy!
ReplyDeleteI also went to one where they chased you with a chainsaw. nopenopenope
I used to go to at least one haunted house every year. One year i went on a haunted hay ride where you could shoot paint ball guns at the "scary people' in the woods. That was 5 years ago. Last "haunted' thing I did. I kind of miss it.
ReplyDeletei hate haunted houses! but the Fear Factory one looks hilarious. have you seen their site? it has pics of the people in the house and it's so funny!

Vodka and Soda
Oh Lawdy, how do you do these and not wet your pants? That is the question of the day. I would be dying!
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing that Andrew worked as a monster! I can also just picture you being in a room on your phone, bored to pieces. I really like the idea of experiencing being buried alive (I also find that terrifying as I am claustrophobic) x
ReplyDeleteYou are far braver than I am. You couldn't pay me enough money to go to a haunted house and have someone scare me. Nooooo thank you. You picture at fear factory is freaking awesome.
ReplyDeleteFun! I have been to one of the ones in Niagara Falls. I can't remember which one. But I don't think I have been to a haunted house since I was 18! They scare me too much! I'm such a baby!
ReplyDeleteI love spook houses! But it does suck when they let too many people go in at one time. We went through one this weekend that did that and half the line didn't even get to be scared.
ReplyDeletethat fear factory one is soooo cool. i think you told me about that one! this is so neat that you've been to so many, you are braver than me!!
ReplyDeleteIs it sad they all seem scary to me? I'm not really a haunted house person lol
ReplyDeleteThe only one I've been to, doesn't really count.. It's more of a ride but you have to go through the hotel to get to the elevator.. The Tower Of Terror. It's set in a Twilight Zone theme and I thought it was pretty spooky. Plus the people that work there were always in character, which I think is brilliant. Other than that; the haunted house in Disney World.. but that wasn't scary, it was more cute. The pitch black haunted house would scare the freaking hell out of me. I would probably be afraid in every single place that you mentioned. I watched a scary movie the other night and yesterday I put a hamper in the hallway and forgot about it, when I went into the hallway again I jumped and was so freaked for about a second.. thinking it was someone. I'm a total jumpy wuss on a regular basis.
ReplyDeletefound this through Helene & Sarah's link up! I've always wanted to go check out the haunted houses in Ontario but haven't made it yet. So happy to have found a fellow Canadian blogger :)
ReplyDeleteThe thought of hearing you even talk about haunted houses gives me the willies, seriously!!
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to go to the one @ Wonderland but never get around to it.
ReplyDeleteOMG I so wish that I could go into a haunted house, but I'm total chicken shit and I'm afraid that they are the perfect place for a crazy killer to hide. I'm silly, I know.
ReplyDeleteI actually never went to a proper haunted house but just a small (totally fake) haunted made in my school's fair. Honestly, I wasn't impressed by the white bed-sheet made ghosts and weird voices!
ReplyDeleteI would love to check out this wonderland!!! It looks so fun! I did a little Haunted Tour of New Orleans on my link-up.
